Black Beauty Activated Charcoal Facial Soap

I'm in love with a batch of soap at the moment.  These slabs of gorgeousness are just begging to be used don't you think?  I'm so tempted to slice off a chunk and use it right away, but I know they'll be so much better if I can just hold on for another couple of weeks.  Oh the torture of soap making.  We're a patient bunch I tell you!

I've added some amazing goodies to what I hope to be the most amazing facial soap ever.  Yes, I have high hopes for these babies!  Jojoba, Organic Rosehip and Apricot Kernel Oils hang out with my regular squeezes - Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Olive Oil and Coconut Oil.  An earthy blend of skin-beneficial Carrot Seed, Geranium and Lavender Essential Oils take these beauties to a whole other planet of goodness.

They'll be available in the shop in and around the 13th of March.  I can't wait.

New Year, new look

I've been unhappy with the labels on our Body Butters for a long while now.  The fonts weren't quite right, and I felt that they didn't really do justice to the awesomeness (yes, awesomeness!) that was contained in each pot.  So, what do you do when you're unhappy about something?  You change it of course!

It took a while to come up with these (being that I'm under no delusions about my graphic design ability), but I'm really happy with the result.  For now  : )

Next on my list is to do the same for my Shea Butter Sugar Scrubs.  Exciting!

And just for reference, some shots of what the body butters used to look like:

Loofah - the ultimate soap dish

Hello!  How are you?  Well I hope!

I just wanted to share something with you that I think you're going to like.  If you buy handmade soap, then you are probably aware that to prolong the life of the soap the best thing you can do for it is to keep the soap nice and dry between uses.  This means leaving it in a well draining soap dish, or in a dish rack, or even resting on top of a dry face cloth (my method for a long time).

The methods mentioned above all work well, but lets just say you don't have a soap dish.  Or you don't have a stack of about 15 face cloths to use like I do.  Or your soap dish actually doesn't do much other than let your soap sit in a little puddle of soapy water.  These things can all lead to one sad bar of soap, last goes mushy, and sadly wont last very long at all.  Boo!

Well, here's my fix.  It's something that I've been doing for a while now, and I must say, I love the results.  What I do is pop my soap onto a slice of loofah sponge, and use that for a soap dish.  It works really well because the soap is in so little contact with anything, air circulates around the outside edges of the soap, helping to dry it out and make it last and last.  And the best thing is that if the loofah gets a bit grubby from having the soap sitting on it you can just rinse it out and leave it to dry and you're good to go again.  Awesome!

I'm so happy with the results in fact that I've added the loofah slices to the store as a special gift set with our new Loofah Kitchen Soap.  Check them out here.

And here's another deal just for my readers.  Order any three soaps from Saponify this week and I'll throw in a free loofah slice for you to try yourself.  Offer ends Sunday 12.02.12 at 9pm.  Additional loofah slices can be purchased for just $1.00, or 3 for $2.40, from our store here.

Sweet Feet Shoe Sachets

I've recently taken up Rock Climbing again, after a very, very long break.  Yay!  I'm loving the exercise, and the challenge, and everything else that goes with it.  What I don't love is the way my climbing shoes have quickly become really, obnoxiously smelly.  Not so nice!

This afternoon I've been playing around with making little shoe deoderising sachets for my climbing shoes.

This is a mixture of odor-eating Bicarb Soda, with ground Tea Tree Leaves.  Smells great!

I added a few drops of my favourite refreshing Essential Oils - Lemongrass and Peppermint, and then bagged them up in some large tea bags.

Into the so-smelly-I'm-embarrassed-by-them climbing shoes.

I'm going to give a couple of these sachets to my climbing buddies too - hopefully we can all be sweetly smelling together very soon!
