Saponify for Extra Curricular Magazine

I was recently very fortunate to be interviewed for the gorgeous little magazine, Extra Curricular.  Extra Curricular is about folks who get creative with their spare time. Published out of Auckland but featuring talented creatives from both sides of the Tasman, Extra Curricular finds out what makes them tick, and gets a glimpse into their homes and studios.  This issue is all about self-sufficiency, a subject close to my heart.

There are a list of retailers on the Extra Curricular blog, and if you're in Sydney you can purchase the magazine at Follow Store in Surry Hills.

Thank you Rosa-may and Kura, for interviewing and photographing me, and to Ellie for including me in your beautiful publication!

May Chang and Activated Charcoal handmade soap

I've wanted to have a citrus soap in the range for a good long while now, and finally, after a bit of a happy accident I do!  My newest addition to the Saponify range is May Chang and Activated Charcoal.

The 'accident' happened when I was making up the mini soap batches for my wholesale customer, and one of the soaps she'd requested was a simple lemon scent.  I made a plain white soap, scented only with May Chang, and it was beautiful!  Somehow though, I forgot to calculate my water discount into the recipe, so the resulting soaps from the first batch were quite soft, and they got damaged coming out of the silicone mould.  Very sad!  I really dislike waste, so I got to thinking about how to salvage the soaps, and came up with this recipe.  Cubing up the soft white soap was a painstakingly long process because it was so tacky, but it was so worth it for what they produced!  I ended up repeating the recipe because I loved how they came out so much, and I think this will become a regular in the range.
